“I was worried about falling down.
I went out my door and down the stairs and found myself spread eagle on the pavement. That fall was enough to worry me. You are just always scared. You don’t know when you are going to take your next step and fall…or as I call it “tipping over”. You know people say “You got dizzy”. And I say no I don’t feel dizzy, it’s just my balance is shot.
I noticed while we were at prayer circle I’d be standing with my eyes closed and I could feel myself swaying back and forth. I started asking people around me, “Am I actually moving or is it just a sensation?” And they would say, “No, you’re moving. You’re rocking right back and forth.”
I found out from working with Ryan that there is a whole lot to the issue of balance. Between what your feet feel, what your eyes see, and the hairs within your inner ear. Ryan got me on the right track. I feel fine now. I can stand now with my eyes closed and I don’t have that rocking sensation. I have a lot more confidence now than I did before.
Physical therapy was a blast! I loved going in there. Having goals that you are trying to meet and the community that you have in the clinic helps kick in the competitive nature and makes it fun to see the other people that are also in PT along with you. I kept everybody in stitches. I’m 76 years old right now so all my life is about now if enjoying life! When I graduated from PT I missed the social aspect of it as much as everything else.”
