Direct Access to Physical Therapy in Missouri
As of August 28, 2023, Missouri law allows patients to begin physical therapy without a physician’s referral. This means you can consult directly with our licensed physical therapists to address your movement and mobility goals.
What This Means for You
Immediate Access: Start your physical therapy sessions without waiting for a doctor’s appointment or referral.
Qualified Care: Our therapists who hold a Doctorate in Physical Therapy or have over five years of clinical experience are authorized to initiate treatment directly.
Efficient Treatment: You can receive up to 10 visits or 30 days of therapy (whichever comes first) without a referral. If further treatment is needed beyond this period, we’ll coordinate with your healthcare provider to continue your care seamlessly.
Important Considerations
Scope of Practice: If during an evaluation, your condition is determined to be outside the scope of physical therapy, we will refer you to an appropriate healthcare provider.
- Insurance Coverage: While the law permits direct access, some insurance plans may still require a physician’s referral for reimbursement.
