How to Get Good Glutes

On this WCSH6 MORNING SHOW segment Back in Motion Physical Therapy’s Mary Kroth-Brunet tells us why having a strong butt is important.

It’s not just to look good! Your glute medius and minimus are really important as well, they stabilize the hip joint and pelvis.

Consequences of weak gluteals:

-Low back pain
-Hip pain
-Knee pain
-Sprains and strains in knee muscles, tendons and ligaments
-Poor balance

Causes of gluteal weakness:

-Sitting too much
-LBP
-Chronic ankle sprains
-Walking with less weight on 1 foot

Exercises to activate the glutes:

-Single-leg stance exercises are the most effective for improving all 3 muscles.
-Step up/down using the glutes
-STAR exercise
